How to Make Smores!

Writers Workshop has been so much fun lately! The students in Cottage 2 have learned the importance of the Functional Writing genre. We see and use Functional Writing everyday. Street signs, directions to a game, recipes and grocery lists all give us information that we need.

The boys and girls have been giving step-by-step directions to familiar tasks such as brushing teeth, riding a bike and making a sandwich. Last week we made Smores together! The students watched as I gathered the materials needed and followed directions. After waiting patiently, the students got to make their own! They were delicious!

Literacy Week Continues!

The kindergarten friends LOVE to read. Whether it be with a friend, independently, on a computer or through playing a fun game, Cottage 2 Learners enjoy the fabulous feeling reading brings every day!

Celebrate Literacy Week!

January 23 kicked off Celebrate Literacy Week! What a fun week we had as we appreciated the gift of reading! Take a look at some of the fun things Cottage 2 did throughout the week!

Author Timothy Weeks spoke to the students at Seabreeze. He read one of his stories to us. We even got to participate in the storytelling! What a fun experience!

Max's dad came to Cottage 2 on "Real Men Read Books" Day! We got to hear two of Max's favorite stories! Thank you, Mr. Lockett!!

Blubber Gloves

We were so lucky to have a New Year's visit from Mad Scientist McKay! Our resident science expert taught Cottage 2 about adaptations that animals make both physically and behaviorally. We learned how animals like penguins, polar bears and whales have blubber to keep their bodies warm in freezing water temperatures. She even let us put on "Blubber Gloves" to see what a difference it makes in freezing water.
