Our Own Little Potters!!

The students LOVED Art on Wednesday.  They had a blast learning how to smooth and mold clay as Ms. O'Bannon instructed how to make a clay pot.  The students were taught how to pinch and mold the clay into the shape of their liking.  They were even able to use a pencil to add texture and decor to the pots. Now it's on to the kiln to fire up the pots!  We can't wait to see the finished product!

We Love Our Mystery Readers

Mrs. Sweeney....My former 5th grade teacher and Karla's neighbor!!

Noah's Great-Grandmother

We loved meeting a former teacher!! She was a very special visitor!!

Measuring Our Feet

During Math Workshop we have been measuring the length of objects using unconventional units.  The students have been able to use cubes to find the length of a certain object.  Last week we traced our footprints and measured the length using cubes.  We then compared our feet to our classmates using the terms longer than and shorter than.  It was a lot of fun! Take a look!

How to Make Smores

Writers Workshop has been so much fun lately! The students on Island 2 have learned the importance of the Functional Writing genre. We see and use Functional Writing everyday. Street signs, directions to a game, recipes and grocery lists all give us information that we need.

The boys and girls have been giving step-by-step directions to familiar tasks such as brushing teeth, riding a bike and making a sandwich. Last week we made Smores together! The students watched as I gathered the materials needed and followed directions. After waiting patiently, the students got to make their own! They were delicious!
